POTTERY WORKSHOPS

  • Introduction to Wheel Throwing - 2 hours

    This introduction course is all about getting hands-on experience on the wheel. It’s designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of throwing vessels with structural integrity. Structural integrity ensures your vessels can withstand the drying and firing process as well as function as reliable table ware. Students in this workshop gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between form, function, and aesthetic.

  • Mud to Mug - 3 days

    ‘Mud to Mug’’ is an opportunity to learn and experience each stage of clay production. This workshop provides students with the opportunity to explore every stage of the pottery process. Artist intuition is at the core of the Susu philosophy therefore students with a particular interest in a stage of production will be supported to deepen their understanding in this area. Ofa generously shares her knowledge and experience in the hope that students will continue exploring their creative selves through clay.

    On completion of this workshop students will have gained the knowledge to set up a basic home studio to continue their relationship with clay. Students undertaking this tuition will develop both their practical and theoretical knowledge in all aspects of Ofa’s process from beginning to end product.

  • Introduction to Handbuilding - 3 days

    In this introductory workshop, students will have the opportunity to learn about the art of hand-building. Ofa will share her expertise on clay bodies and their various applications and techniques like slab building and coiling. Throughout the workshop, students can design and glaze their vases or bowls to take home with them.
